என்னானும் ஒன்றுதம் கையுறப் பெற்றக்கால்பின்னாவ தென்று பிடித்திரா - முன்னேகொடுத்தார் உயப்போவர் கோடில்தீக் கூற்றம்தொடுத்தாறு செல்லும் சுரம்.

பொருள்
எவ்வளவு சிறியதே ஆனாலும் ஏதேனும் கைக்கு வந்தபோது, 'பின்னால் தருவேன்' என்று அதைப் பிடித்து வைத்திருக்காதே. முன்பே கொடுத்தவர்களே உய்வர்; கொடுந்தீயான கூற்றம் சுட்டுத் துடைத்துச் செல்லும் பாலைவனம் இந்த வழி.
Meaning
However little comes into your hand, do not clutch it saying you will give later. Those who gave earlier are the ones who come through, for this road is a desert and death is a wildfire sweeping across it.

விளக்கம்
பாலைவனத்தில் தண்ணீர் கிடைப்பது அரிது; தீ பற்றினால் ஒரு நொடியில் பரவும். அதுபோல வாழ்க்கைப் பாதையில் கூற்றம் வருகிறது. அங்கே தப்பிக்க உதவுவது கொடை ஒன்றே.
'பின்னால்' என்ற சொல் இந்தப் பாட்டில் ஒரு பொறி. அது எத்தனையோ பேரை விழ வைத்திருக்கிறது. கொடுக்க முடியும் நேரத்திலேயே கொடுப்பவன், தான் தேடி வந்த தீ பிடிக்காத தூரத்துக்கு முன்னே முந்திவிடுகிறான்.
Explanation
In a desert water is scarce and fire spreads in a moment. Death travels the same road. The one thing that shelters a person there is what they have given.
The word 'later' is the trap in this verse; it has ruined a great many people. Whoever gives while giving is still possible gets ahead of the fire before it reaches him.
