Mahabharata, Sabha ParvaDraupadi's Endless Garment
From the Mahabharata. At the game of dice Yudhishthira lost his kingdom, his brothers and himself, and at last staked and lost Draupadi too. On Duryodhana's order, Dushasana dragged Draupadi into the assembly and began to pull at her garment.
Bhishma and Drona sat with their heads bowed. Her husbands stood bound by their defeat. At first Draupadi clutched her garment with her hands. Then, knowing no one would help, she raised both hands above her head and cried out with her whole heart: 'Govinda! Dweller in Dwaraka! Krishna!'
From that moment, however much Dushasana pulled, new garments kept appearing. Cloth piled up like a mountain in the hall, until Dushasana collapsed, exhausted. Draupadi's honour was saved. The garment the world tried to tear away, God made endless; but the veil of maya around us, Kambar says, his grace tears away.
