Tamil that melts in love for God
The Nayanmars sang of Lord Shiva and the Alvars of Lord Vishnu as they walked from temple to temple. Their hymns are still sung every day in the temples of Tamil Nadu.
Among the Shaiva Thirumurai, Thiruvasagam is the eighth and Thirumandhiram the tenth. The Alvars' songs were gathered by Nathamuni as the Naalayira Divya Prabandham. An old saying runs: "One who does not melt at Thiruvasagam will melt at no words at all."
