Explanation

Kambar says that when a great work is born, it is not only people who are blessed. Music gained new melodies; Tamil gained new glory; the Vedas gained new explanation. Earth and sky were made holy by those songs.

It also sounds as if Kambar is speaking from his own experience. The poet of the Ramayana knew how a great work becomes a great blessing for the world.

Valmiki Ramayana, Bala Kanda

The Krauncha Bird's Grief and the First Poem

From the Valmiki Ramayana. The sage Narada told Valmiki the story of Rama in brief and went away. Valmiki then went to bathe in the river Tamasa. In a tree there sat two krauncha birds, happy together. A hunter shot the male with an arrow, and the female cried out in grief.

At that sight Valmiki's sorrow poured out by itself as a verse: 'Ma nishada...', hunter, may you find no rest. He was himself amazed to find the words had come in a perfect metre. That was the world's first shloka, born of shoka, sorrow.

Then Brahma himself appeared before Valmiki and said: 'These words came by my grace. Sing the whole story of Rama in this same metre. As long as mountains and rivers stand, this story will live in the world.' When a great work was born, earth and sky were blessed. Kambar says the same of the time when Nammalvar's songs were born.
