யானையின் பிடரி பொலிய வெண்கொற்றக் குடை நிழலில் சேனைத் தலைவராய்ச் சென்றவர்களும், வினை முடிந்தபோது மாறி வீழ்ந்தார்கள்; அவர்கள் மணந்த மனைவியரை மற்றவர் கொண்டனர்.
Meaning
Even those who rode out as army commanders under the white royal parasol, elephants gleaming before them, fell when their deeds ran out; and other men took the wives they had married.

முதல் பாதி அரச பரிவாரத்தின் முழு வனப்பைக் காட்டுகிறது — யானை, வெண்குடை, சேனை. இரண்டாம் பாதியில் அதே காட்சி தலைகீழாகிறது. 'வினை உலப்ப' என்பது அவர்களுடைய நல்வினையின் அளவு தீர்ந்தது என்பது. மனைவி மற்றவர் வசமாவது என்பது, ஒருவருடைய உலகமே முழுவதுமாகக் கரைந்து போனதன் அடையாளம்.

Explanation
The first half shows the full splendour of a royal progress: elephants, white parasol, army. In the second half the same scene is inverted. To say their deeds ran out means the measure of their good fortune was finished. That strangers take the wife is the sign that a man's whole world has dissolved.
Rank, army and fame are not ours; they came along with the measure of our deeds, and when the measure is spent they go. So the wisdom is not to glory in them but to do good while they are still with us.
