Srimad Bhagavatam, Book 10Kuchela Who Asked for Nothing
From the Srimad Bhagavatam. Sudama, known as Kuchela, Krishna's boyhood friend, lived in bitter poverty. At his wife's urging, he went to Dwaraka carrying only a handful of flattened rice tied in a rag.
Krishna ran to embrace him, washed his feet and seated him on his own couch. They talked of their days in the guru's hermitage. But Sudama said not a word about his poverty and asked for nothing. He was even too shy to offer the rice; Krishna snatched it from him and ate it with love.
When he returned home, his hut had become a palace. Krishna knew his friend's need without a word being spoken.
