Srimad Bhagavatam, Book 10Kamsa's Schemes
From the Srimad Bhagavatam. Learning that Devaki's eighth child would be his death, Kamsa threw his sister and her husband into prison and killed each child born to them. But on the night Krishna was born, the prison doors opened by themselves, and the baby reached Gokula.
After that Kamsa plotted again and again. He sent Putana, then the demons Shakata, Trinavarta and Agha. Each was destroyed by the boy.
At last he invited Krishna and Balarama to Mathura, planning to have them killed by a mad elephant and his wrestlers. In that very arena, Krishna brought Kamsa down. Every scheme raised against the Lord perished.
