Srimad Bhagavatam, Book 9The Wrath of Parashurama
From the Srimad Bhagavatam. King Kartavirya Arjuna seized by force the wish-granting cow of the sage Jamadagni. The sage's son Parashurama, in fury, killed the king and brought the cow back.
To take revenge, the king's sons killed Jamadagni while Parashurama was away. When Parashurama saw his father's body, his anger knew no end. Twenty-one times he destroyed the tyrant kings of the earth.
At last he gave up war, gave all the lands he had won to the sage Kashyapa, and went to the Mahendra mountain to do penance. Anger that rose over a single cow had become war lasting for generations.
