Thiruvilayadal PuranamThe Purse of Gold for Dharumi
From the Thiruvilayadal Puranam. The Pandya king of Madurai had a doubt: does a woman's hair have a natural fragrance? He announced a purse of a thousand gold coins for a poem that answered rightly.
Dharumi, a poor brahmin, could not even afford to marry. He prayed with a pure heart to Chokkanathar. The Lord himself wrote the poem beginning 'Kongu ther vazhkkai' and gave it to him. When the poet Nakkeerar found fault with it, the Lord came in person to argue, and in the end Nakkeerar too was forgiven.
Dharumi received the purse of gold. To a poor man who trusted God with a pure heart, the beautiful Lord himself gave wealth.
