Mahabharata, Vana ParvaRescuing Duryodhana from the Gandharvas
From the Mahabharata, Vana Parva. While the Pandavas lived in the forest, Duryodhana came with a great retinue, meaning to flaunt his wealth and mock them. There he clashed with Chitrasena, king of the Gandharvas, and the Gandharvas took him captive.
His men ran to Yudhishthira for help. Bhima said, 'This is the fit reward for one who wished us harm.' But Yudhishthira said, 'There may be enmity among us, but when outsiders attack one of our clan, we must stand together.'
Arjuna and Bhima went and rescued Duryodhana. Standing by a kinsman in distress, even one who was an enemy, was Yudhishthira's greatness.
