Mahabharata, Sabha ParvaShishupala's Hundred Insults
From the Mahabharata, Sabha Parva. At the Rajasuya sacrifice, the first honour was given to Krishna. Shishupala, king of Chedi, though Krishna's own kinsman, rose in fury and reviled him before the whole assembly. He insulted Bhishma and Yudhishthira too.
Krishna had once given Shishupala's mother a promise: 'I will forgive a hundred of his offences.' He bore the insults calmly. But Shishupala did not stop, and he crossed the limit of a hundred.
Then Krishna's discus struck him down. No one in the assembly stood up for him. The man who spread abuse made enemies of all and fell alone.
