எனக்குத்தாய் ஆகியாள் என்னைஈங் கிட்டுத்தனக்குத்தாய் நாடியே சென்றாள் - தனக்குத்தாய்ஆகி யவளும் அதுவானால் தாய்தாய்க்கொண்டுஏகும் அளித்திவ் வுலகு.

பொருள்
எனக்குத் தாயாக இருந்தவள் என்னை இங்கே விட்டுவிட்டுத் தன் தாயைத் தேடிச் சென்றாள் (இறந்தாள்). அவளுக்குத் தாயாக இருந்தவளும் அப்படியே போனாள். இப்படித் தாயைத் தாயைத் தேடிச் செல்லும் இந்த உலகம் இரங்கத்தக்கது.
Meaning
She who was my mother left me here and went in search of her own mother. Her mother too went the same way. Pitiable is this world, which goes on, mother after mother, seeking the one before.

விளக்கம்
இறப்பை 'தன் தாயைத் தேடிச் செல்லுதல்' என்று மென்மையாகச் சொல்கிறது பாடல். தலைமுறை தலைமுறையாக அதே பயணம் தொடர்கிறது.
'அளித்து இவ்வுலகு' என்பது 'இரங்கத்தக்கது இவ்வுலகம்' என்று பொருள்படும். நிலையில்லாத உலகத்தில் நிலைத்திருப்போம் என்று எண்ணுவதே பேதைமை.
Explanation
The verse speaks of death gently, as 'going to look for one's own mother'. Generation after generation, the same journey goes on.
'Aḷittu iv ulagu' means 'pitiable is this world'. To think we will stay in a world where no one stays is folly.
