Guruparampara tradition (Life of Embar)Govinda Turns Back at Kalahasti
From Vaishnava tradition. Govinda, a cousin of Ramanuja on his mother's side, once lived as a devotee of Shiva at Kalahasti. To bring him back, Ramanuja sent his own maternal uncle, Periya Thirumalai Nambi.
Nambi did not argue with Govinda. He sat beneath a tree near the garden where Govinda gathered flowers, and recited aloud the hymns of Alavandar and their meaning. One day Govinda stopped to listen. The flower basket fell from his hand, and tears poured from his eyes.
He fell at Nambi's feet and went with him to Tirupati. Later, as Embar, he became one of Ramanuja's closest disciples. A doubt that argument could not settle was settled when he listened and melted. That is what Kambar says in this verse.
