Meaning

She is the one in the form of penance. She is the auspicious wife of our Shankara's household, and she also became His mother. So she is the supreme Goddess above all gods. I will not waver now, thinking there is some other god; I will serve her truly.

Explanation

Verse 43 ended with 'irundhavale'; this begins with 'thavale'. The Mother is Shiva's wife and, at the same time, His mother. This continues verse 13's 'elder than Shiva'. The Shakta tradition holds that the three great gods themselves came from the Shakti who is the source of all.

So Bhattar concludes: she is the Goddess above all gods. His mind will no longer waver in search of another; it will stay steady in true service.

Devi Bhagavata Purana, Book 3

The Three Gods in Manidvipa

From the Devi Bhagavata Purana. At the beginning of creation, Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva did not know what their tasks were. Then a celestial vehicle came down from the sky, took them aboard and carried them to Manidvipa, the jewel island in the middle of the ocean of nectar.

There, in a palace full of gems, sat the Mother Bhuvaneshvari. As they came near her, all three were changed into women. In the nail of her toe they saw all the worlds, and countless Brahmas, Vishnus and Shivas like themselves, and they marvelled.

The Mother gave them their tasks of creation, preservation and dissolution, and sent them back with Saraswati, Lakshmi and Uma as their powers and companions. Because she is mother and companion to the three gods, Bhattar says 'she became His mother too'.
