Meaning

I will never fear Yama, who comes pursuing with trident in hand, whirling his noose. We have the spear and the holy hand of the six-faced one, son of the Lord who drank the halahala poison that rose from the ocean; they are our one true companion.

Explanation

The Alankaram ends in fearlessness. The son of Shiva, who drank poison for the world's sake, will take on any sorrow for his devotees. While his spear and his hand are with us, there is no room for fear.

From the Bhagavatam and Shiva Purana tradition

Neelakantha, the blue-throated

When the milk ocean was churned, the halahala poison rose first and began to burn the worlds. Gods and asuras fled in terror. Shiva calmly held it in his palm and drank it. Lest it go down and destroy the worlds within him, Parvati held his throat and stopped it there. The poison stayed in his throat and turned it blue, and he became Neelakantha. The son of that father, who takes on sorrow for the world, is our true companion.
