Meaning

If the two feet of Kumaresa, with their anklets, little bells and tandai rings, his six faces, his shoulders and his kadamba garland appear before me, what can the day do? What can karma do? What can the planets that came seeking me do? What can cruel death do?

Explanation

Even today many worry over horoscopes and good and bad days. Arunagirinathar says: when Murugan's form stands before your eyes, neither day nor planet nor karma nor death can do anything. Many recite this verse from memory whenever fear comes.

From the Thevaram, the life of Thirujnanasambandar

The Kolaru Pathigam

As Thirujnanasambandar set out for Madurai, Thirunavukkarasar stopped him: 'The day and the planets are not favourable; do not go now.' Sambandar smiled and sang the Kolaru Pathigam, beginning 'Veyuru tholi pangan', declaring that for Shiva's devotees every day and every planet is good. He then went to Madurai and triumphed. Arunagirinathar's verse sounds like a Murugan form of that hymn.

Which worry about an 'auspicious time' can you let go of today?
