Meaning

Join me to your feet, like the blue water lily and the lotus, and protect me, O rider of the noble plumed peacock! Like a lone creeper with no stake to cling to and climb, with no support at all, my sinful, lonely mind sways, withers and trembles.

Explanation

A creeper cannot stand on its own; it needs a stake. So does the mind; without support it sways. The Lord's feet are that stake.

From the life of Andal

The garland she wore first

Kodhai was the baby Periyalvar found in the tulasi garden at Srivilliputhur. She would first wear the garland made for the Lord, look in the mirror and long, 'Am I fit for Ranganatha?' One day her father saw it and was distressed; but that night the Lord said, 'I want only the garland she has worn.' She was a creeper that clung to Ranganatha as her support, and at last she merged with him at Srirangam.
