Explanation

Do not speak with partiality. When we judge or bear witness, we must speak only the truth, leaning neither towards kin nor friend.

The last line of Aathichoodi is a line about justice. The courage to speak the truth even against one's own son is the highest honesty a person can have.

Mahabharata, Udyoga Parva (Vidura Niti)

Prahlada's Judgement

From the Mahabharata, Udyoga Parva, a story Vidura told Dhritarashtra. Virochana, son of the asura king Prahlada, and a brahmin named Sudhanva disputed, "Which of us is the greater?" They wagered that the loser would forfeit his life, and came to Prahlada himself to judge.

Since he might be expected to favour his own son, Prahlada first asked the sage Kashyapa, "What becomes of a judge who knowingly speaks with partiality?" The sage replied, "He drags both his ancestors and his descendants into sin."

Prahlada said to his son, "Sudhanva is greater than you, and his father is greater than me." Sudhanva, honouring that truth, said, "Prahlada, for your honesty I give your son's life back to you." Justice that would not take sides saved the son as well.
