From the tradition of PalaniThe fruit of wisdom
Narada brought a mango to Kailasa. Shiva and Uma said, 'The fruit goes to whoever first goes round the world.' Murugan set off on his peacock to circle the world. Ganesha circled his parents, said 'You are my world,' and received the fruit. Murugan returned, hurt, and went to stand on Palani hill wearing only a loincloth. Uma came and consoled him: 'You yourself are the fruit of wisdom.' So the place became 'Pazham Nee', Palani.
