From the Kanda Sashti Kavacham tradition

Devaraya Swamigal's armour

In the nineteenth century, Devaraya Swamigal suffered terrible stomach pain that no medicine could cure. Thinking to end his life, he went to the sea at Tiruchendur. Tradition says that there, by Murugan's grace, the illness left him, and in gratitude he sang the Kanda Sashti Kavacham. In it he asks Murugan to guard every part of the body from head to foot. Millions still recite it daily.
