Mahabharata, Virata ParvaThe End of Kichaka
From the Mahabharata, Virata Parva. During their year in hiding, the Pandavas lived in disguise at King Virata's palace. Draupadi served the queen as a maid named Sairandhri.
Kichaka, the queen's brother and the army's commander, harassed her. Though she refused him, he insulted her even in open court. Everyone in the palace silently cried "shame!" at his conduct, but kept quiet out of fear of his power.
Draupadi turned to Bhima. At night in the dance hall, Bhima confronted Kichaka and struck him down. Despite his strength and rank, the name of one who behaved so basely is remembered only with disgust.
