Kalidasa's Raghuvamsha, Canto FiveRaghu and Kautsa
From Kalidasa's Raghuvamsha. King Raghu, an ancestor of Rama, gave away all his wealth in the Vishvajit sacrifice and lived with only clay vessels. Just then, a young student named Kautsa came seeking fourteen crore gold coins as the fee for his teacher.
Seeing the king's clay vessels, Kautsa turned to leave. Raghu said, "No one who comes to me should leave empty-handed," and resolved to march against Kubera, lord of wealth.
The next morning a shower of gold had fallen into his treasury; Kubera himself had given it. Raghu offered all the gold, but Kautsa took only what he needed. The king who delighted in giving and the student who would take no more than he needed were both praised by the people of Ayodhya.
