Meaning
Whoever calls this land Bharata Desa kills craven fear and conquers sorrow, its enemy. We shall roam the silver snow mountains; we shall send ships across all the western sea; we shall turn every school into a temple, and clap our shoulders saying this is our Bharata Desa. We shall build a bridge to the island of Lanka, raise the causeway at Setu and lay roads along it; with the flood that comes down the Ganga we shall grow crops in the lands at the centre. We shall go to the eight directions and sell what we make — cut gems, gold and many other goods — and bring back everything we count as wealth. We shall dive for pearls in the southern sea, where traders of many lands crowd in and bring us the goods we love, while the western shore asks our grace. On the Sindhu river, in the moonlight, we shall sing in lovely Telugu with the young women of the good Chera land, rowing our boats and playing. We shall trade Ganga-side wheat for Kaveri betel; with Marathi verse we shall gift Chera ivory. We shall build a device so that the words of Kasi's poets are heard in Kanchi, and give good Kannada gold to the warriors of Rajasthan. We shall heap cloth of silk and cloth of cotton in the streets like hills, and give it to the traders of the earth who come with their laden goods. We shall make weapons and good paper, set up mills and schools; we shall not rest nor bow our heads; we shall speak truth and do many generous deeds. We shall make umbrellas and ploughs, sacks and iron tools, carts that walk and carts that fly, and ships that make the world tremble. We shall learn mantras and the craft of work; we shall measure the sky and count the fish of the sea; we shall study the ways of the moon's sphere and grow clear; we shall learn the science that widens the streets of the city. We shall write epics, grow good forests, grow the arts, grow the smith's forge; we shall paint and make good needles, and gladly do every craft in the world. And since the Tamil woman said there are only two castes and no other, we shall call her word nectar: the upright, who stand in justice and give to others, are the high; the rest are the low.

Explanation
This song is a nation's work-list: build a bridge, lay roads, turn flood water into crops, trade in all eight directions, dive for pearls, set up mills, make paper, measure the sky, build ships that shake the world, write epics, paint. These are the tasks the poet sets for the country, not the tasks of war.
The last section turns suddenly to ethics: since the Tamil woman said there are only two castes and no other, we shall call her word nectar, and the upright who stand in justice and give to others are the high. The energy of industry that ran through the song becomes a measuring rod here: the nation's greatness lies not in what it builds but in its honesty.
