வேதத்தைப் புதுமை செய். வேதத்தின் அழியாத உண்மைகளை இன்றைய காலத்துக்கு ஏற்பப் புதிய வடிவில், புதிய மொழியில், புதிய உயிரோடு தா.

விளக்கம்
இது புதிய ஆத்திசூடியின் நோக்கத்தையே சுருக்கிச் சொல்லும் கட்டளை. வேதம் "ஸநாதனம்", என்றும் உள்ளது; ஆனால் அதை ஒவ்வொரு தலைமுறையும் புதிதாகக் கண்டு, புதிதாகச் சொல்ல வேண்டும். ரிக்வேத முனிவர்களே "நவ்யம் வச:", புதிய சொல்லால் தேவரைப் போற்றுவதைப் பேசுகின்றனர்.
ஆதிசங்கரர், இராமானுஜர், மத்வர் போன்றோர் தம் காலத்துக்கு வேதத்தைப் புதிதாக விளக்கினர். திருமூலரும் ஆழ்வார்களும் நாயன்மார்களும் வேதக் கருத்துகளைத் தமிழில் தந்தனர்; நம்மாழ்வாரின் திருவாய்மொழி "திராவிட வேதம்" எனப்படுகிறது. பாரதி உபநிடதங்களையும் கீதையையும் தமிழில் தந்து, வேதக் கருத்துகளைப் புதுக் கவிதையில் பாடி இந்தக் கட்டளையைத் தாமே நிறைவேற்றினார். புதுமை செய்வது என்பது மாற்றுவது அல்ல; உயிர்ப்பிப்பது.
Explanation
This precept sums up the very purpose of the Pudhiya Aathichoodi. The Veda is 'sanatana', eternal, yet every generation must discover and speak it anew. The Rig Vedic seers themselves speak of praising the gods with 'navyam vachah', a new word.
Adi Shankara, Ramanuja and Madhva explained the Veda afresh for their times. Tirumular, the Alvars and the Nayanmars gave Vedic thought in Tamil; Nammalvar's Thiruvaymozhi is called the 'Dravida Veda'. Bharathiyar fulfilled this precept himself by rendering the Upanishads and the Gita in Tamil and singing Vedic thought in new poetry. To make new is not to alter but to bring to life.
