Explanation

The Mother's ornaments, one by one: the sugarcane bow and flower arrows in her hands, a pearl garland on her breast, a jewelled girdle and silk at her waist. It is a form full of wealth and beauty.

The one beside her is the Digambara, 'who wears the eight directions': the ascetic with no ornament, clothed only in space. Wealth and renunciation, adornment and simplicity, are joined in one body. The vision says the world is made of both together.

Kashi tradition, Skanda Purana (Kashi Khanda)

Annapurna Feeds the Wandering Beggar Shiva

From the Kashi tradition. Once Shiva and Parvati disagreed. 'The world is illusion,' said Shiva, 'and food is illusion too.' To show that the world's food and life are forms of Shakti, the Mother vanished from the world.

At once famine spread over the earth. Nothing grew, and living beings wasted away with hunger. Even gods and sages went without food. Shiva, who wears only the directions, wandered as Bhikshatana, the beggar, with a skull bowl in His hand.

At Kashi the Mother appeared as Annapurna, giver of food, and fed everyone with a golden ladle. Shiva too held out His bowl before her and received food. The story shows that the richly adorned Mother and Shiva, the ascetic who owns nothing, care for the world together.
