Explanation

The previous verse ended 'a hymn of praise'; this begins 'praising'. This verse speaks from the other side: what happens to those who never think of the Mother?

He says five kinds of wealth dwindle: generosity, family, lineage, learning and character. This is not a curse; it points to a truth. Without the remembrance of God, the mind fills with pride and loses even the good it has. Note the words 'even for a moment': the verse also holds the promise that remembering the Mother for a single moment is enough.

Shiva Purana, Sati Khanda; Bhagavata Purana, Book 4

Daksha's Sacrifice Without Shiva

From the Shiva Purana. The Prajapati Daksha had great wealth, a proud lineage and much learning. His daughter Sati married Shiva, but Daksha scorned Shiva, who smeared himself with ash.

Daksha held a great sacrifice. He invited all the gods, but not Shiva and Sati. When Sati went to her father's house anyway, he insulted her too. Heartbroken, Sati gave up her body in the fire of her own yoga. In his wrath Shiva sent Virabhadra. The sacrifice was destroyed and Daksha's head fell. Later, at the prayer of the gods, Shiva relented and gave Daksha life again with the head of a goat.

Though he had wealth, lineage and learning, Daksha, who forgot Shiva and Shakti, lost everything. This is the proof of Bhattar's words that those who never think of the Mother even for a moment will lose 'generosity, family, lineage, learning and character'.
