ஆரவாரித்து வரும் தீய கூட்டங்களையும், தண்டம் ஏந்திய எமனின் வலிய தூதர்களையும், பில்லி பேய்களையும், மாபூதங்களும் அஞ்சும்படி, வாயாலும் காலாலும் பந்தாடி மிதித்துக் கொட்டி, வடவைத் தீ போன்ற செம்பவளச் சிறகுகளை விரித்து, பசுமையான மலைமேல் தணிகையில் வேலேந்திய குமரனைப் பார்த்து அன்போடு கூவும் சேவல். ஆகமங்களைப் போற்றுவோர் தொழும் முக்தி தரும் முருகன்; பழைய காட்டில் வேடர்கள் அம்பெய்து போரிட்டபோது அவர்களோடு போரிட்ட சிறுவன்; மனக்கவலையைப் போக்கும் 'கந்தா' என்று போற்றும் சித்தர்களுக்கு இரங்கும் ஆறுமுகன்; வெற்றிவேள், தூயவன், தாமரைக் கையன் ஆகியோனின் சேவற் திருக்கொடியே!
The rooster that kicks and tramples and batters, as though playing ball with beak and claw, the roaring evil throngs, the mighty messengers of mace-bearing Yama, sorcery and ghosts, so that even the great bhutas are afraid; then spreads its coral-red wings like the undersea fire and crows lovingly, gazing at Kumara with the spear on the green hill of Thanigai. O holy rooster banner of Murugan, giver of liberation, worshipped by the followers of the Agamas; the boy who fought the hunters when they shot arrows at him in the ancient forest; the six-faced one who pities the siddhas who cry 'Kanda' to end their mind's sorrow; the victorious Lord, the pure one, lotus-handed!
எமனின் தூதர்களும் சேவலுக்கு முன் பந்துபோல் உருள்கின்றனர். வள்ளியை மணக்கும்போது வேடர்களோடு போர் நடந்தது; ஆனால் அது பகையில் முடியவில்லை, உறவில் முடிந்தது.
Even Yama's messengers roll like balls before the rooster. When Murugan married Valli there was a fight with the hunters; but it ended not in enmity but in kinship.
முருகன் வள்ளியை அழைத்துச் சென்றதை அறிந்த நம்பிராஜனும் வேடர்களும் அம்புகளோடு துரத்தி வந்து போரிட்டனர். சேவல் கூவ, அவர்கள் அனைவரும் வீழ்ந்தனர். வள்ளி வருந்தி, "என் உறவினரை மீட்டுத் தாருங்கள்" என்று வேண்டினாள். முருகன் அருளால் அனைவரும் உயிர் பெற்று எழுந்தனர். உண்மை தெரிந்த நம்பிராஜன் மகிழ்ந்து, முறைப்படி வள்ளியை முருகனுக்கு மணமுடித்துக் கொடுத்தான்.
When Nambiraja and the hunters learned that Murugan had taken Valli away, they chased after him with bows and fought. When the rooster crowed, they all fell. Valli grieved and begged, 'Give my kinsmen back to me.' By Murugan's grace they all rose up alive. Learning the truth, Nambiraja rejoiced and gave Valli to Murugan in marriage with all due rites.
