எமனே! உன் தண்டாயுதமும் சூலமும் கீழே விழும்படி தாக்கி, உன்னைத் திண்டாடும்படி வெட்டி வீழ்த்துவேன். செந்தில் வேலவனுக்குத் தொண்டனான என்னுடைய, பகையற்ற ஞானச் சுடர் வாளைக் கண்டாயா? அந்தகா, சற்று என் கைக்கு எட்டும்படி வந்து பார்!
O Yama! I will strike down your mace and your trident, and cut you down until you reel. Have you seen the flaming sword of wisdom, free of all hatred, held by me, the servant of the spear-bearer of Senthil? Come, Antaka, come within reach of my hand, and see!
அடியவனின் ஆயுதம் 'பகையற்ற ஞானம்'. அது எமனையும் வெல்லும். இது ஆணவம் அல்ல; முருகனுக்குத் தொண்டன் என்ற உறுதியிலிருந்து வரும் துணிவு. மரண பயம் நீங்கியவனின் குரல்.

Markandeya was born to the sage Mrikandu with a life span of only sixteen years. At sixteen, Yama came with his noose. At Thirukkadavur the boy clasped the Shiva linga, and Yama's noose fell around the linga too. Shiva burst forth from it and kicked Yama away. Markandeya received the boon of remaining sixteen forever.
