Explanation

The first line names the four postures of the body: standing, sitting, lying and walking. In none of them does the mind let go of the Mother. This remembering through the whole day is true meditation.

The second half is a string of callings: rare meaning, Grace, Uma, born in the Himalaya, bliss. She who is the inner meaning of the Veda was born for the world's sake as the daughter of Himavan. Bhattar marvels that the boundless Supreme came as a child.

Shiva Purana, Parvati Khanda

The Penance of Parvati, Daughter of the Himalaya

From the Shiva Purana. After Sati gave up her body at Daksha's sacrifice, she was born again as Parvati, daughter of Himavan and Mena. From childhood her mind turned only to Shiva.

But Shiva was lost in deep penance. Parvati understood that she could not win Him by beauty, so she too began a penance. She stood through sun, rain and snow. At first she lived on leaves; then she gave even those up, and so she was called Aparna, 'she who takes not even a leaf'.

One day a young ascetic came and spoke ill of Shiva. Parvati covered her ears and rose to leave. Then the ascetic revealed Himself as Shiva. Her penance, thinking of Shiva whether standing, sitting or lying down, is the model for the way Bhattar remembers the Mother in this verse.
