Explanation

Learning of their kinship, the queen's love overflows. In the Mahabharata the queen mother says, ‘You are my sister's daughter; we are both daughters of Sudaman, king of Dasharna.’

The epithet ‘steadfast’: through all this suffering, Damayanthi has never strayed from the right path.

Nalavenba, Kalithodar Kandam; compare Mahabharata, Vana Parva (Nalopakhyana)

The Truth Is Told

The brahmin tells the queen who she really is, and the queen grieves.

To reflect on

Kindness shown before kinship is known is finer than kindness shown after.
