செல்வத்தை வென்று வாழ். முயற்சியால் செல்வம் சேர்த்து வளமாக வாழ்; செல்வத்துக்கு அடிமையாகாமல் அதை ஆள்.

விளக்கம்
"திரு" என்பது செல்வம், திருமகள். வறுமையை ஆன்மிகம் என்று போற்றுவதைப் பாரதி ஏற்கவில்லை; வறுமையே நாட்டின் பல கேடுகளுக்கும் காரணம் என்றார். "வென்று" என்ற சொல் முயற்சியால் செல்வம் பெறுவதையும், செல்வத்தின் மேல் வெற்றி கொள்வதையும் குறிக்கிறது.
அறம், பொருள், இன்பம், வீடு என்ற நான்கு புருஷார்த்தங்களில் "பொருள்" (அர்த்தம்) ஒன்று. ஸ்ரீ ஸூக்தம் திருமகளை வேண்டி வறுமையையும் தீமையையும் நீக்கச் சொல்கிறது. திருவள்ளுவர் "பொருளல் லவரைப் பொருளாகச் செய்யும் பொருளல்ல தில்லை பொருள்" (குறள் 751) என்கிறார். ஆனால் அந்தச் செல்வம் அறவழியில் வர வேண்டும்.
Explanation
'Thiru' means wealth and Lakshmi herself. Bharathiyar did not accept the praise of poverty as spirituality; he held poverty to be the cause of many of the nation's ills. 'Winning' means both gaining wealth through effort and having victory over it.
Artha, wealth, is one of the four aims of life alongside dharma, kama and moksha. The Sri Suktam prays to Lakshmi to drive away poverty and misfortune. Thiruvalluvar says there is nothing like wealth for making nobodies into somebodies (Kural 751). But that wealth must come by the path of dharma.
