வெற்றி முரசைக் கொட்டடா! கொட்டடா! வெற்றி முரசைக் கொட்டடா!
பயம் என்னும் பேயை அடித்து விரட்டினோம்; பொய்ம்மை என்னும் பாம்பைப் பிளந்து அதன் உயிரைக் குடித்தோம். அகன்ற உலகம் முழுவதையும் அமுதம் என்று நுகரும் வேத வாழ்வைக் கையில் பிடித்தோம்.
சூரியனின் ஒளியில் நீராடினோம்; ஒளி என்னும் இனிய அமுதத்தை உண்டு களித்தோம். மறைவாக வந்து உயிர்க் கூட்டத்தை அழிக்கும் காலன் நடுநடுங்கும்படி விழித்துப் பார்த்தோம்.
காக்கையும் குருவியும் எங்கள் இனம்; நீண்ட கடலும் மலையும் எங்கள் கூட்டம். பார்க்கும் திசை எல்லாம் நாமே அன்றி வேறு இல்லை. பார்க்கப் பார்க்க ஆனந்தக் களியாட்டமே!

Beat the drum of victory, beat it! Beat the drum of victory!
We have beaten away the ghost called fear; we have split the serpent called falsehood and drunk its life. We have taken hold of the Vedic life, which tastes the whole wide world as nectar.
We have bathed in the light of the sun; we have feasted joyfully on the sweet nectar of light. We have opened our eyes and stared, so that Kala, who comes in stealth to destroy the race of living beings, trembles all over.
The crow and the sparrow are our kin; the long sea and the mountains are our company. In every direction we look there is nothing but ourselves. The more we look, the more joyful the dance!

விளக்கம்
'ஐய' என்பது 'ஜய' (வெற்றி) என்பதன் தமிழ் வடிவம். இது ஆன்ம வெற்றியின் முரசு. பயம், பொய்ம்மை, மரணம் என்ற மூன்று பகைகளையும் வென்ற பின் பாரதி முரசு கொட்டச் சொல்கிறார்.
'நோக்குந் திசையெலாம் நாமன்றி வேறில்லை' என்பது அத்வைதத்தின் சாரம். ஈசாவாஸ்ய உபநிடதம் (6-7) 'எல்லா உயிர்களையும் தன்னிலும், தன்னை எல்லா உயிர்களிலும் காண்பவன் எதையும் வெறுப்பதில்லை; அவனுக்கு மயக்கமோ துயரமோ இல்லை' என்கிறது. அதனால்தான் காக்கையும் குருவியும் 'எங்கள் ஜாதி' ஆகின்றன. மனிதர் இடையே சாதி பேசப்பட்ட காலத்தில், பாரதி பறவைகளையும் மலைகளையும் தன் இனமாகக் கொள்கிறார்.
'இரவியின் ஒளியிடைக் குளித்தோம்' என்பது காயத்ரி மந்திரம் போற்றும் சவிதாவின் ஒளியை நினைவூட்டுகிறது. அந்த ஒளியே அமுதம். அதை உண்டவன் காலனுக்கு அஞ்சுவதில்லை; காலனே அவனைக் கண்டு நடுங்குகிறான்.
Explanation
'Aiya' is the Tamil form of 'jaya', victory. This is the drum of the soul's victory. Bharathiyar calls for it to be beaten after three enemies have been overcome: fear, falsehood and death.
'In every direction we look there is nothing but ourselves' is the heart of Advaita. The Isha Upanishad (6-7) says that one who sees all beings in the Self and the Self in all beings hates nothing, and for him there is no delusion and no sorrow. That is why the crow and the sparrow become 'our kin'. In an age when people spoke of caste among humans, Bharathiyar counts birds and mountains as his own kind.
'We bathed in the light of the sun' recalls the light of Savitr praised in the Gayatri mantra. That light is the nectar. One who has drunk it does not fear Kala; it is Kala who trembles before him.
