Meaning

Drive the chariot on, charioteer, so that it races the rain-cloud. Like the minds of the wealthy who long for lasting fame, the forest where tireless bees hum their songs has made the pidavam bush beautiful.

Explanation

The hero urges his charioteer on. He wants the chariot to race the rain-cloud itself, so eager is he to be home.

The simile of the rich man longing for fame is subtle: such longing never rests, and the bees in the forest never rest either. The flowering pidavam bush is the sign that the season of return has come, and his impatience runs ahead of the horses.

To reflect on

Joy is not satisfaction; it is a pulse.
