பொருள்
செந்நெல்லிலிருந்து தோன்றிய செழிய முளை, மீண்டும் அதே செந்நெல்லாகவே வளர்ந்து விளைகிறது; அதுபோலவே, நெல் வயல் நிறையக் காய்க்கும் வளமான வயல்களை உடைய ஊரில், மகனின் அறிவும் தந்தையின் அறிவாகவே இருக்கும்.
Meaning
The rich sprout that came from red paddy grows again as that same red paddy; and so, in a town whose fertile fields ripen full of grain, a son's understanding is the understanding of his father.

Explanation
The image comes from farming. A sprout of red paddy becomes red paddy again; the nature of the seed does not change. So, says the verse, a son's understanding is the father's understanding.

As a seed depends on its soil and season, so a son's understanding depends on where it grows. One kind of seed yielding one kind of crop is simply nature; seeing that also shows the weight of a family's responsibility.
