பொருள்
எண்ணற்ற செல்வக் குவியல்களையும், உயர்வையும், உலக ஆட்சியையும், வானில் சூரியன் தரும் ஒளியையும் வெம்மையையும், பெரும் உறுதியையும், அறிவையும், குளிர்ந்த நிலவின் அமைதியையும் அருளையும் இன்று என் தாய் என் காளி தருவாள். (அவற்றைக் கொண்டு) உலகத்தவர்க்குத் துயரம் இல்லாமல் செய்வேன்; வறுமை என்பதையே மண்ணின் மேல் அழிப்பேன்.
தானமும் வேள்வியும் தவமும் கல்வியும் எல்லாம் பூமியில் நிலைபெறச் செய்வேன். வானம் மாதம் மூன்று முறை மழை தரச் செய்வேன்; குறையாத வளங்களைக் கொடுப்பேன். மானம், வீரியம், ஆண்மை, நல்ல நேர்மை, வள்ளன்மை எல்லாம் எங்கும் வழங்கச் செய்வேன்; ஞானம் ஓங்கி வளரச் செய்வேன். நான் விரும்பியதைக் காளி தருவாள்.
Meaning
Countless heaps of wealth, eminence, rule over the earth, the light and heat the sun gives in the sky, great firmness, knowledge, the calm and the grace of the cool moon - today my Mother, my Kali, will give me these. [With them] I will free the people of the earth from sorrow; I will destroy the very thing called poverty upon the earth.
I will make charity, sacrifice, tapas and learning all endure on the earth. I will make the sky give rain three times a month; I will give riches that never fail. I will make honour, vigour, courage, true honesty and generosity spread everywhere; I will make wisdom rise and grow. Kali will give me what I desire.

இந்தப் பாட்டில் பாரதி கேட்கும் செல்வம் தனக்கானதல்ல. முதல் பத்தியில் செல்வம், ஆட்சி, அறிவு, அமைதி எல்லாம் கேட்கிறார்; உடனே 'மண்ணிலார்க்குந் துயரின்றிச் செய்வேன், வறுமையென்பதை மண்மிசை மாய்ப்பேன்' என்கிறார். பெற்றது எல்லாம் உலகுக்கு.
'வானம் மூன்று மழை' என்பது பழைய தமிழ்க் கருத்து: அறம் நிலைக்கும் நாட்டில் மாதம் மும்மாரி பெய்யும். தானம், வேள்வி, தவம், கல்வி - இவை வேத மரபு சொல்லும் அறத்தின் தூண்கள்.
பாரதியின் சக்தி வழிபாடு உலகைத் துறப்பது அல்ல, உலகை மாற்றுவது. ஒரு கவிஞன் வறுமையை ஒழிப்பேன், மழை பெய்விப்பேன் என்று சொல்வது ஆணவம் அல்ல; காளி தருவாள் என்ற நம்பிக்கையில் வரும் துணிவு.
Explanation
The wealth Bharathiyar asks for in this song is not for himself. In the first stanza he asks for riches, rule, knowledge and peace, and at once says, 'I will free the people of the earth from sorrow; I will destroy poverty upon the earth.' Everything received is for the world.
'Rain three times a month' is an old Tamil idea: in a land where dharma endures, rain falls three times a month. Charity, sacrifice, tapas and learning are the pillars of dharma in the Vedic tradition.
Bharathiyar's worship of Shakti is not renouncing the world but transforming it. A poet saying he will end poverty and bring the rain is not arrogance; it is courage born of faith that Kali will give.
