Seeriyaay neeyetuppath theemai ketukinraen / Koorun thazhalaviththuk kontupoayp - paaril / Vitukenraan marrantha venthazhalaal vemmaip / Patukinraan vaelvaenthaip paarththu.
'O noble one! if you lift me, this evil will end for me; quench the sharp flame, carry me and set me down on the earth', he said, looking at the spear-king who was being burned by that blazing fire.
The verse shows the serpent's plea: he asks to be freed, and says the evil will end — that rescue is itself release.
Subtly, Nalan is called the spear-king though he is no longer a king; the weapon remains with him, the title does not.

To be rescued is itself a kind of release.
