Suyasarithai is Bharathiyar's life told in his own verse. In 'Kanavu' (The Dream) he sings of his boyhood in Ettayapuram, a child's first love, English schooling, marriage and his father's ruin; in 'Bharathi Arupathaaru' (Bharathi's Sixty-Six) he sings of the gurus he met in Puducherry, the way to conquer death, the freedom of women and the oneness of all faiths.

Introduction
Two of Bharathiyar's autobiographical poems are published together as 'Suyasarithai'. The first is 'Kanavu' (The Dream). Opening with the Vedantic thought that life itself is a dream, it sings of his boyhood in Ettayapuram, a child's love at the age of nine, his regret over a useless English education, his early marriage, and the ruin and death of his father.
The second is 'Bharathi Arupathaaru' (Bharathi's Sixty-Six), a poem of sixty-six stanzas. Beginning with praise of Parashakti, it teaches that one who conquers anger, worry and fear can conquer death itself. It honours the sages Bharathiyar met in Puducherry, Kullachami, Govinda Swami and the Swami from Jaffna, and his friend Kuvalai Kannan; it sings of the freedom of women, the dignity of the mother and the glory of love, and ends with the Upanishadic truth 'tat tvam asi', in which all religions become one.
Here Kanavu is given in seven parts and Bharathi Arupathaaru in nineteen, twenty-six songs in all.
