Meaning
In the open air, Kannamma, I rejoice thinking of your love. Your lips like a spring of nectar, your eyes brimming with moonlight, your body like gold of the finest touch - as long as I am in this world they comfort me with no other thought, and make me a god right here!
Kannamma, you are my sweet life! At every hour I will praise you. The moment I held you as my gold, sorrows went, troubles went. The moment I say the name 'Kannamma', nectar wells up in my mouth! Flame that grows in the fire of life! My thought! My very mind!

Explanation
Though Bharathiyar's 'Kannamma' songs read as love songs, they belong to the tradition of nayaki-nayaka bhava, singing of God as the beloved. As Andal sang of Krishna as her lover, Bharathiyar sings of Parashakti as his beloved Kannamma. 'Kannamma' is a feminine form of Kannan - a fruit of his vision that Hari and Shakti are one.
The proof is in the song itself: the beloved makes a man 'a god'; she is 'the flame that grows in the fire of life' - a description of the Kundalini Shakti, the inner light of the soul. In 'my thought, my very mind', she is not outside but within as consciousness itself. The song shares the mood of his 'Kannan Pattu' collection.
