The lame, the blind, the dumb, those who have no share of milk from anyone, and those who have never held a book: whoever sets out abundant food for these is lifted up by the gods and not cast down.

Explanation

Five kinds of the afflicted are counted. Setting food before them is not a ritual but a verdict, which is why the gods are said to lift such a person up.

The phrase for those without milk means those who have had no share of affection. Not food alone but love has to be divided, and that word carries the reminder.

To reflect on

Not food alone but affection has to be divided.
