Explanation

Foreign rule disarmed Indians and left them powerless. Bharathiyar asks them to learn again how to defend themselves and their country. Dhanurveda, the science of arms, is one of the four Upavedas, and archery and the martial arts were part of education in our tradition.
Rama and Lakshmana learned warfare from Vishvamitra, the Pandavas from Drona. Silambam and kalari are martial arts of the Tamil and Kerala lands. But these arts exist to protect dharma; the Gita (2.31) says there is nothing better for a kshatriya than a righteous war.
