சந்திர னொளியில் அவளைக் கண்டேன்,சரண மென்று புகுந்து கொண்டேன்;இந்திரி யங்களை வென்று விட்டேன்,எனதென் ஆசையைக் கொன்று விட்டேன்.பயனெண் ணாமல் உழைக்கச் சொன்னாள்,பக்தி செய்து பிழைக்கச் சொன்னாள்;துயரி லாதெனைச் செய்து விட்டாள்,துன்ப மென்பதைக் கொய்து விட்டாள்.மீன்கள் செய்யும் ஒளியைச் செய்தாள்;வீசி நிற்கும் வளியைச் செய்தாள்;வான்க ணுள்ள வெளியைச் செய்தாள்,வாழி நெஞ்சிற் களியைச் செய்தாள்.

பொருள்
சந்திரனின் ஒளியில் அவளைக் கண்டேன்; 'சரணம்' என்று அவளிடம் புகுந்துகொண்டேன். புலன்களை வென்றுவிட்டேன்; 'எனது' என்ற ஆசையைக் கொன்றுவிட்டேன்.
பயனை எண்ணாமல் உழைக்கச் சொன்னாள்; பக்தி செய்து வாழச் சொன்னாள். என்னைத் துயரம் இல்லாதவனாகச் செய்துவிட்டாள்; துன்பம் என்பதைக் கொய்து எறிந்துவிட்டாள்.
விண்மீன்கள் தரும் ஒளியை அவள் படைத்தாள்; வீசும் காற்றைப் படைத்தாள்; வானில் உள்ள வெளியைப் படைத்தாள்; என் நெஞ்சில் மகிழ்ச்சியையும் படைத்தாள் - அவள் வாழ்க!
Meaning
I saw her in the moonlight, and took refuge in her, saying 'I surrender'. I have conquered the senses; I have killed the craving for 'mine'.
She told me to work without thinking of the fruit; she told me to live by devotion. She has made me free of sorrow; she has plucked out the very thing called suffering.
She made the light the stars give; she made the wind that blows; she made the space in the sky; and she made gladness in my heart - long may she live!

மூன்றே பத்திகள் கொண்ட இப்பாட்டு ஒரு முழு ஆன்மீக வாழ்க்கையைச் சொல்கிறது. முதல் பத்தி சரணாகதி: கண்டேன், புகுந்தேன், வென்றேன், கொன்றேன். இரண்டாம் பத்தி அவள் கட்டளை: 'பயனெண்ணாமல் உழை' - இது பகவத் கீதையின் நிஷ்காம கர்மம் அப்படியே.
மூன்றாம் பத்தி வியப்பு: விண்மீன் ஒளி, காற்று, வானவெளி - பெரியவற்றைப் படைத்தவளே 'நெஞ்சிற் களியையும்' படைத்தாள். பிரபஞ்சத்தைப் படைத்த அதே ஆற்றல்தான் ஒரு மனிதனின் மனத்தில் மகிழ்ச்சியையும் தருகிறது.
சந்திர ஒளியில் தேவியைக் காண்பது பாரதிக்கு மிகப் பிடித்த காட்சி; 'வெண்ணிலாவே' போன்ற பாடல்களிலும் நிலவு தெய்வ அனுபவத்தின் இடமாக வருகிறது.
Explanation
In just three stanzas this song tells a whole spiritual life. The first is surrender: I saw, I entered, I conquered, I killed. The second is her command: 'work without thinking of the fruit' - the Bhagavad Gita's nishkama karma, exactly.
The third is wonder. Starlight, wind and the space of the sky: she who made the vast things also made 'gladness in my heart'. The same power that made the universe gives joy to one person's mind.
Seeing the Goddess in moonlight was one of Bharathiyar's favourite visions; in songs like 'Vennilave' too the moon is a place of divine experience.
