விளக்கம்
"ஞேயம்" என்பது "நேயம்", அன்பு, நட்பு. அன்பு ஒருமுறை கிடைத்தால் போதாது; அதைக் காக்க வேண்டும். சிறு சொல்லாலும் கவனக்குறைவாலும் நட்பு முறிந்துவிடும்.
கண்ணனும் குசேலனும் (சுதாமா) இளமையில் சாந்தீபனி முனிவரிடம் ஒன்றாகக் கற்றவர்கள். பல ஆண்டுகள் கழித்து ஏழையாக வந்த குசேலனைக் கண்ணன் அரசனாக இருந்தும் ஓடிவந்து தழுவி, அவன் கொண்டுவந்த அவலை அன்போடு உண்டான் (பாகவதம், 10ஆம் ஸ்கந்தம்). திருவள்ளுவர் "உடுக்கை இழந்தவன் கைபோல ஆங்கே இடுக்கண் களைவதாம் நட்பு" (குறள் 788) என்கிறார்.
Explanation
'Njeyam' is 'neyam', love and friendship. It is not enough to find love once; it must be guarded, for a careless word or neglect can break a friendship.
Krishna and Kuchela (Sudama) studied together as boys under the sage Sandipani. Years later, when Kuchela came to him poor, Krishna, now a king, ran to embrace him and lovingly ate the flattened rice he had brought (Bhagavata Purana, Book 10). Thiruvalluvar says true friendship removes distress at once, as the hand flies to a slipping garment (Kural 788).
