ஊருள் எழுந்த உருகெழு செந்தீக்குநீருள் குளித்தும் உயலாகும் - நீருள்குளிப்பினும் காமம் சுடுமேகுன் றேறிஒளிப்பினும் காமம் சுடும்.

பொருள்
ஊரில் எழுந்த கொடிய தீக்கு, நீரில் மூழ்கினால் தப்பிப் பிழைக்கலாம். ஆனால் நீரில் மூழ்கினாலும் காமம் சுடும்; மலை ஏறி ஒளிந்தாலும் காமம் சுடும்.
Meaning
From a fierce fire that breaks out in town you can escape by plunging into water. But desire burns even in water, and burns even if you climb a mountain and hide.

விளக்கம்
முந்தைய பாடலில் ஞாயிறும் அம்பும்; இங்கே ஊர்த் தீ. ஒவ்வொன்றுக்கும் ஒரு தப்பிக்கும் வழி உண்டு. காமத்துக்கு மட்டும் வழியில்லை.
'குன்று ஏறி ஒளிப்பினும்' என்பது இடம் மாறினால் தப்பலாம் என்ற நம்பிக்கையை மறுக்கிறது. தப்புவது இடத்தைப் பொறுத்தது அல்ல.
Explanation
In the previous verse, arrow and sun; here, a fire in town. Each of these has a way out. Desire alone has none.
Hiding on a hill denies the hope that a change of place will save you. Escape does not depend on the place.
