Maraimuthalva neeyingkae vantharulap perraen / Piravip perunthuyara mellaam - aravae / Pizhaiththaenyaa nenraanap paeraazhi yaanai / Azhaiththaeval konta arasu.
Master of the Vedas, by your coming here and your grace I have wholly escaped all the great sorrows of birth: so said the king.
These are Yudhishthira's own words. That the arrival of one sage should let a man escape the whole sorrow of birth is a large claim, and it shows what this book believes.
Suffering ends not by a change of circumstance but by a change of understanding. The kingdom has not come back; the mind has.
This verse is the immediate reason the story is told: the king is consoled, and then consolation is carried further.

Sometimes the mind changes before the circumstances do.
