பொருள்
நெற்றியைச் சுருக்காதே. கோபத்தாலும் கவலையாலும் முகம் சுளிக்காமல் மலர்ந்த முகத்தோடு இரு.

விளக்கம்
முகம் மனத்தின் கண்ணாடி. திருவள்ளுவர் "அடுத்தது காட்டும் பளிங்குபோல் நெஞ்சம் கடுத்தது காட்டும் முகம்" (குறள் 706) என்கிறார். அடிக்கடி நெற்றியைச் சுருக்குபவன் தன் கவலையையும் கோபத்தையும் பிறர்மேல் பரப்புகிறான்.
விருந்தோம்பல் அதிகாரத்தில் "மோப்பக் குழையும் அனிச்சம் முகந்திரிந்து நோக்கக் குழையும் விருந்து" (குறள் 90): அனிச்ச மலர் முகர்ந்தாலே வாடும்; விருந்தினர் முகம் மாறிப் பார்த்தாலே வாடுவர் என்கிறார். கீதை (2.65) "ப்ரஸன்னசேதஸ:", மலர்ந்த மனம் உடையவனின் அறிவு விரைவில் நிலைபெறும் என்கிறது.
Explanation
The face is the mirror of the mind. Thiruvalluvar says that as crystal shows what is near it, the face shows what burns in the heart (Kural 706). One who often frowns spreads his worry and anger to those around him.
In the chapter on hospitality he says the anicham flower wilts when merely smelled, and a guest wilts at a changed look on the host's face (Kural 90). The Gita (2.65) says the intellect of one whose mind is serene soon becomes steady.
