Meaning

Knowing that coveting makes you less, and having sifted it, still not to covet is hard: covetousness is rage, and it is evil seeing. These three are not hidden things; speak of them plainly as being in the mind.

Explanation

Three inner enemies are named: covetousness, rage and evil seeing. None of them shows on the outside, and all of them destroy a life.

The claim that they are not hidden things is a hard judgement. These are not secrets to be kept but states to be admitted as states of mind. Only after admitting them can they be overcome.

To reflect on

Admitting what is in the mind is where victory begins.
