Meaning

He fears no sword, no cruelty, no beauty, no men, and not even the wealth that comes to him. And seeing death come, which never allows a single day over, he does not flinch: such a man reaches the book of the verse that has won release.

Explanation

Five fears are refused: the sword, cruelty, beauty, people and wealth. These are the five powers that usually move a person around.

The sixth fear is death, and only the man who is not afraid of that either reaches the book of release. Freedom here is not a heroism that conquers death but a calm that does not flinch at it.

To reflect on

Freedom is not a heroism that beats death but a calm that does not flinch at it.
