அள்ளிக்கொள் வன்ன குறுமுகிழ வாயினும்கள்ளிமேல் கைந்நீட்டார் சூடும்பூ அன்மையால்செல்வம் பெரிதுடைய ராயினும் கீழ்களைநள்ளார் அறிவுடை யார்.

பொருள்
கள்ளிப் பூக்கள் அள்ளிக் கொள்ளும் அளவுக்குப் பூத்திருந்தாலும், சூடும் பூவாக அமையாதபடியால் யாரும் அவற்றின் மேல் கை நீட்டார். அதுபோலச் செல்வத்தைப் பெரிதும் உடையராயினும், அறிவுடையார் கீழ்களை நாடார்.
Meaning
Though the kalli blooms in clusters enough to be gathered by the handful, no one reaches a hand to it, since it is no flower to be worn. So, though the base may hold great wealth, the discerning do not seek them out.

Explanation
The image separates abundance from worth. The kalli flowers in plenty — enough to be gathered by the handful. But it is not a flower to be worn in the hair. Abundance does not confer fitness.
Now to people. The base may be very rich, but the discerning do not seek them out. What keeps them away is not pride; it is nature. The verse says that a man is not to be measured by the size of his wealth, and that worth lies in the mind.
