Meaning

Reflecting that life is as unsteady as a drop of water on the tip of a blade of grass, do virtuous deeds now, while they are sweet to do; for soon one who stood, sat or lay is spoken of as having gone.

Explanation

Three postures — standing, sitting, lying — are not only the three states of a day but the three seasons of a life. In any of them a person may be said to have gone.

The word for now comes twice: once for time, once for the sweetness of the deed. Together they make urgency gentle.

To reflect on

The end can come while you stand, sit, or lie.
