வினைப்பயன் வந்தக்கால் வெய்ய உயிராமனத்தின் அழியுமாம் பேதை - நினைத்ததனைத்தொல்லைய தென்றுணர் வாரே தடுமாற்றத்துஎல்லை இகந்தொருவு வார்.

பொருள்
வினையின் பயன் வரும்போது அறிவற்றவனின் உயிர் வெப்பம் கொண்டு மனத்தால் அழிகிறது. ஆனால் நினைத்ததை இறந்த காலத்திற்கு உரியது என்று உணர்பவர், தடுமாற்றத்தின் எல்லையைக் கடந்து வெளியேறிவிடுவார்.
Meaning
When the fruit of past deeds arrives, the life of the fool burns and perishes in his own mind. But those who understand that what they thought belongs to the past cross beyond the limit of wavering.

விளக்கம்
வேதனை வெளியில் இருந்து வருவதாகத் தோன்றினாலும், அது மனத்திற்குள்ளேயே எரிகிறது என்பது பாடலின் கூர்மை. பயன் வருவது உண்மை; அழிவது மனத்தின் துயரம்.
'தொல்லை' என்பது கடந்தது என்பதை உணர்ந்தவர் அதை மீண்டும் மீண்டும் எண்ணி எரிவதில்லை. அதுவே எல்லை கடத்தல்.
Explanation
The sharpness of the verse is that suffering seems to come from outside but burns inside the mind. The fruit does arrive; what perishes is the mind's grief over it.
One who understands that the past is past does not keep burning over it. That is what crossing the limit means.
